Read the identifier on the printer first

The most reliable starting point is the printer itself. Look for a product or model name on the front, top, rear, or underside, then copy every relevant letter, number, and suffix. A family name can cover several variants, so “Series” alone may be too broad for a driver search. If a label also contains a serial number, keep it private unless an official manufacturer support process specifically asks for it; it identifies an individual unit, not the product model you normally need for downloads.

A multifunction printer may advertise printing, scanning, copying, or fax features in large type. Those feature words are useful context but do not replace the model identifier. If the label is inaccessible, check the original purchase record, packaging, or a device information/configuration page the printer can produce. Use information generated by the printer only as a record of that printer; do not guess from a photo of a similar machine.

Make the record readable enough that another person could repeat the search. A hostname or local address can help you tell two units apart on the same network, but it will change more readily than a model name and is not the right search term for a driver package. For a USB printer, the connection label can similarly be useful without proving the exact hardware variant.

Turn the record into a safe next step

Search the manufacturer’s official support site with the exact model and select Windows 11 only when that site offers operating-system choices. Then read each download description. A compatible driver, optional application, and firmware update can all appear in results for the same printer. Matching the model is necessary, but it does not make every download appropriate for the symptom you have.

Expected result: you have a small record—manufacturer, exact model, connection method, and whether Windows already lists a queue—that makes the next decision reproducible. If you cannot find an exact model or the marks conflict, pause rather than choosing the nearest name.
